Volumetric
Weight Convert Tools
Volumetric
weight, sometimes called "dim" or dimensional
weight, is used when the space a package takes on an
aircraft may cost more than the package's actual weight.
You should calculate dimensional weight on every shipment,
and compare that to its actual weight, and use the greater
of the two to determine your shipping cost.
For lightweight shipments the volumetric
weight will be charged if this exceeds the actual weight (in
kilograms).
To calculate the volumetric weight,
enter the width, height and depth of your package (in
centimetres) in the fields below and press the Calculate
button.
CALCULATION OF VOLUME WEIGHT ON AIR
FREIGHT
Example: 40x48x60 cms, gross weight = 5 kgs
volume weight is:
40x48x60 = 115,200 Volume (cm³)
115,200 / 6,000 = 19.2 volume kgs
Your volume weight is higher than
the actual weight (19.2 kgs vs 5 kgs), therefore, your chargeable
weight will be 19.2 kgs. The airlines charge based on both
the actual weight and dimensional weight, where 6 cubic meters
= 1000 dimensional kgs
